Plot summary
Riley earns tickets to pop star Lady Raven's concert for her good grades, and her father Cooper brings her to the arena. Riley hopes to be picked as the Dreamer Girl, the fan who dances with the singer and receives a backstage pass. Cooper notices an unusually heavy police presence around the venue, and a vendor named Jamie tells him the FBI expects a serial killer called the Butcher to be in attendance. Riley asks her father to remain beside her, and Cooper speaks with a spotter working for Lady Raven, claiming Riley recently recovered from leukemia. The claim gets her chosen as the Dreamer Girl.

- M. Night Shyamalan pitched Trap as The Silence of the Lambs set at a Taylor Swift concert, a nod to her Eras Tour, and wrote the screenplay in five-and-a-half months, a personal record for him.
- The premise was inspired in part by Operation Flagship, a 1985 sting in which disguised law enforcement invited 101 wanted fugitives to a convention center with free NFL tickets and a chance to win a Super Bowl XX trip, then arrested them.
- Trap was originally scheduled to shoot in Cincinnati, where it would have received over $9 million in Ohio tax credits, but production relocated to Toronto and got an interim agreement on September 18, 2023, to film during the SAG-AFTRA strike.
- Thousands of extras were not told what Trap was about but were given Saleka's music beforehand so they could sing along. Josh Hartnett recalled that multiple extras consoled him, thinking he was nervous, unaware of the character he was playing.
- For conversational close-ups in which actors look into the camera lens, Shyamalan attached a one-way mirror to the lens that reflected off another mirror, letting the actor see the other actor.
- The film's concert venue, "Tanaka Arena", was filmed inside Hamilton, Ontario's TD Coliseum, a 20,000-seat arena the production got access to for two to three months because it was undergoing renovations.
- Shyamalan's daughter Saleka, who plays Lady Raven, composed fourteen songs for the film while he was writing the script, designing them to match the action onscreen.
