Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Schizopolis (1996)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Schizopolis was shot in Soderbergh's hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana over nine months starting in March 1995 for only $250,000, so many people did multiple jobs, David Jensen played Elmo Oxygen and also served as casting director and key grip, and friends and relatives were hired too.
- When Schizopolis premiered as a surprise film at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival and was poorly received, the filmmakers added a Cecil B. DeMille-inspired introduction and conclusion in the theater to signal that the film was "ironical and self-serving".
- Soderbergh took the lead role himself instead of hiring a professional actor, saying he knew nobody he could ask to come and work for free for nine months in Baton Rouge; his co-star Betsy Brantley, who plays Mrs. Munson, is his ex-wife in real life.
