Plot summary
Millie Wilson has taken a job teaching elementary school English, and she moves to the countryside with Tim Brassington, her longtime boyfriend. Tim, an aspiring musician, has been emotionally distant since his parents died. Before the move, Millie proposed to him at a party and he hesitated. A coworker, Jamie, tells them about walking trails close to the house. Rain catches them on one trail and they fall into an underground cave. Tim drinks water from a pool there; Millie does not. By morning their legs are partly stuck together by a gooey material, which they blame on mildew.

- Director Michael Shanks's partner, who worked for a sex toy company, supplied free lifelike prop genitalia for a scene in Together in which the genitals of Alison Brie and Dave Franco's characters become stuck together.
- For its release in China, Together was digitally altered by authorities so a same-sex couple looked like a heterosexual one, and sex scenes were censored; viewers in China criticized the change as disrespectful to the LGBTQ+ community.

The fused Tim and Millie, nicknamed "Tillie", were created by effects supervisor Genevieve Camilleri, who composited Brie and Franco's faces on Nuke; Brie then wore a wig, make-up recreating Franco's eyebrows and brown contacts, and Franco's jaw and lips were digitally composited onto her face.- Alison Brie and Dave Franco wore a prosthetic that effectively conjoined their arms for hours on end, so the couple had to use the restroom together.
- The film's supernatural element, the curse that fuses people together, is loosely based on the Greek myth of Hermaphroditus and the fountain of Salmacis.
