Plot summary
Mickey has been reading Through the Looking-Glass, and the book sends him into a dream in which he walks through his mirror. On the far side his own belongings have taken on life: a footstool, an umbrella and a rocking chair tangle with him while a coat rack looks on. A nutcracker hands him a magic walnut after cracking it open and eating the shell. After swallowing it, Mickey's stomach spins and his body swells until his head strikes the ceiling, then contracts until he is very small. The telephone lifts its own receiver and drags him onto a desk by its cord; their talk goes nowhere, so the cord doubles as a jump rope, and the game becomes a tap dance, with the radio switching itself on for music.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The tune Mickey marches to with the playing cards is a jazzed-up version of music from the 1932 Disney cartoon Santa's Workshop, and the theme itself is Franz Schubert's Military March Op. 51 No. 1 in D Major.
- The video game Epic Mickey reused elements of the short such as the playing cards and the opening, and even recreated the cartoon as a mini side-scrolling level that acts as a portal to Ostown.
