Plot summary
Charlie is a young art student in New York City, haunted by Joris-Karl Huysmans' novel A Rebours. His best friend Sebastian, dealing with depression and public scorn after his financier father Dick's arrest on white-collar charges, asks Charlie to move into his apartment. Charlie's mother warns him against it, knowing how long his one-sided feelings for Sebastian have lasted. During a night out with Sebastian and their friends, Charlie meets Tim, a Lebanon-born bar pianist, and the two flirt. When Sebastian is refused service because of his father, the group leaves, and paparazzi chase them on the way back to Sebastian's apartment. The night leaves Sebastian worse off.
