Plot summary
A dentist in the provincial town of Upper Yamki counts thirty-three teeth in the mouth of Ivan Sergeyevich Travkin, a food chemist there who mixes carbonated soft drinks and sings in an amateur choir. Travkin, a kind and unassuming man, becomes a celebrity across the country, and he is brought to Moscow, where scientists study him and announce that the thirty-third tooth is unique and may link him to visitors from Mars. The attention brings journalists, women drawn to his fame and men who flatter him. His only quiet comes from his hotel roommate, an earnest industrial diver taking a holiday.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Thirty-three (1965)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Thirty Three was banned after Soviet cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Alexei Leonov and Communist Party ideologue Mikhail Suslov objected; Suslov read the scene where Travkin rides in a government Chaika limousine with motorcyclists as a parody of the Red Square welcome for cosmonauts Pavel Belyaev and Alexei Leonov.
- Despite the official ban, copies of Thirty Three spread across the Soviet Union and were shown clandestinely in cinemas until the ban was lifted in the 1980s.
