Plot summary

Three friends from Moscow leave the city for a camping holiday on the Crimean coast of the Black Sea. Roman is a veterinarian, Vadim a diplomat and Stepan a physicist, and they pick a deserted stretch of shore, pitch their tents, swim and cook from concentrates rather than use the comforts they left behind. Their privacy ends when two women arrive at the same spot: Natasha, a film actress, and Zoya, a circus trainer who works with lions and tigers. The women claim the campsite as their own and settle in beside the men. Neither side intends to give up the beach, and each sets about making camp life impossible for the other.

Cast

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Tri plyus dva (1963)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • For Three Plus Two, Natalya Fateeva, playing the circus trainer Zoya, went into the tiger cage, leaning on the animals and stroking them, but the shots were cut: the tamer kept the tiger on a leash and his hands appeared in frame.
  • Three Plus Two was made in both widescreen and fullscreen, so every scene had to be shot twice.
  • Partly shot in Crimea's champagne area, with the crew housed in Prince Golitsyn's chateaux, the film was celebrated in 2016 by the ISSI wine group, which released red and white wines whose wrappers recreate a scene from it.
  • The large boulder in the water where Stepan placed his chair and fished in Three Plus Two is now named the "Sundukov stone" in his honour.
