Plot summary
Delphine teaches ballet to children in Rochefort, and her twin sister Solange accompanies them on the piano and writes music; both want to move to Paris. Trucks arrive with the fair that will fill the town square on Sunday, and its workers Étienne and Bill sell motorcycles, bicycles and boats. Maxence, a sailor who paints and writes poetry, is searching for the woman he imagines, and his painting hangs in the gallery of Delphine's boyfriend, Guillaume Lancien. Solange asks Simon Dame, who runs a music shop, to introduce her to the American composer Andy Miller. Yvonne, the twins' mother, keeps a café in the square, where Maxence is a regular customer.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Danielle Darrieux was the only lead in The Young Girls of Rochefort who sang with her own voice. Gene Kelly did not record his own songs because, as Michel Legrand said, his range was only one octave, so Canadian singer Don Burke sang Kelly's parts in French with an American accent.
- Maxence's Song from the film, "Chanson de Maxence", was later given new English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman and became known as "You Must Believe in Spring".
