Plot summary
A new law shuts every brothel in Paris in 1946, and Monsieur Charles Labergerie owns one of them. He has to dismiss the women who work there and dispose of the premises and everything inside. With his wife he distributes parting gifts to the girls, among them Héloïse. Madame Blanche is the madame of the house. One girl, Lucette, is away from the house at a family bereavement, and the red lantern from above the entrance is set aside for her. Charles takes the lantern down himself. Marcel Froment, the owner of another brothel in the city, faces the same law.
