Plot summary
Homeland is a dystopian territory ruled by a dictatorship and sealed off from the world beyond it, and Djata, a boy of twelve, is growing up there. His father, Peter, tells him what Homeland really is and speaks of a treasure kept by a man named Pickaxe. Two government agents then seize Peter, and both he and Hannah, Djata's mother, are named traitors by the state and by the citizens around them. Persecution follows the family. Djata and his father play chess together, and his father gives him a football that he plays with. Djata wants to see his father again.
