Plot summary
Set in 1966, the story follows Kristen, a young woman with no memory of her past who is arrested after setting fire to an abandoned farmhouse in rural Oregon. The police bring her to the North Bend Psychiatric Hospital, where she meets four other patients: Iris, Sarah, Emily and Zoey. Kristen is placed in a room that belonged to Tammy, a patient who is no longer there, and she meets the therapist Dr. Stringer. She insists she is not insane, but a deformed figure attacks her in the ward. When she reports it to a nurse, she is drugged and subjected to electroshock therapy.
