Plot summary
Jackie Kimball is 17 and in high school in Brooklyn. She lives with her widowed mother, her 18-year-old brother Matthew, and an older sister, Jeanne; another brother studies abroad. Jackie's romantic love for Matthew goes back to her earliest years, and he does not feel the same way. In spring 2011, Matthew gets involved with Yolanda, his first girlfriend. Jackie manages to be sociable at a family dinner, but she cannot eat without vomiting. That evening, in the attic room where the siblings often meet, she confronts him.
