Plot summary
Black, an ex-convict who believes in God, is at a subway station when White, a depressed college professor, tries to throw himself in front of the Sunset Limited. Black stops him. The two men are in an apartment, and Black will not let White leave. Black is sure God placed him at the station for a reason. White holds that everything created fades away and that death ends everything, while Black argues that there is a God and that the troubles of life lead to paradise. Each defends his own view and tries to convert the other, in a conversation about what is true and important in life.
