We Are Twisted Fucking Sister! (2014) on Netflix

Plot summary

Interviews with the band and material from their own archive trace the ten years before Twisted Sister's records and videos made them famous. They came out of Long Island in the early 1970s and spent years on the suburban club circuit that ringed New York, playing night after night in bowling alleys and shore bars. They refused to act as a human jukebox for drunk crowds, filling sets instead with comedy rants, drinking games and smashed disco records. By the late 1970s they were drawing crowds in the thousands at large clubs, while the music establishment still counted them as a bar band.
