Plot summary
Alex has no friends and no direction in his life, and he has a stupid haircut. While he attends the Venice Beach Art School, he gets to know Lizzy, Patrick and Gnome, and the three of them become the first friends he has ever had. Alex decides that he should make a movie, an alternative political documentary, shot in black and white, about Gnome's struggle to free Hawaii. He hires film students to work on it, and he meets the woman of his dreams. He is ready to make the movie. On the first scheduled shooting date, Gnome, who holds the budget, cannot be found.
