Plot summary
In a Welsh town during the 1970s and 1980s, June and Jennifer Gibbons are the only Black family there. Their neighbors keep them at a distance, so the sisters stop talking to everyone except one another. They build a private world of artistic inspiration and teenage longing. An American teenager becomes a figure they both admire, and a spree of vandalism follows. The girls are sent to Broadmoor Hospital, a psychiatric institution.
