Plot summary
Henry Bell has been pushed out of his job by the condescending Bruce Tick, and Karen Knightly, wealthy and wildly eccentric, has been left by her lover Anthony Staxton-Billing, who chose to go back to his wife Imogen. On London's Tower Bridge the two of them meet, each intending to jump. Neither manages it, and Karen talks Henry into a pact: she will settle his score with Tick, and he will ruin Imogen's life for her. Henry agrees without much enthusiasm. Dressed as a frumpy office temp, Karen gets herself hired as an assistant to Tick. Karen's brother Oliver races his motorcycle through the rooms of the family's rural mansion, where the housekeeper Winnie works.
