Plot summary
Joanna Mills, a traveling representative, is a loner who has struggled with self-harm and disturbing visions since age eleven. She agrees to go to Texas for work, though she usually avoids it. Her visions grow stronger there. Her father says she has been different since she was eleven. The visions center on an unknown man and a bar she has never seen, but a picture in her catalog shows the bar. She follows the image to that Texas town.

- Director Asif Kapadia called making The Return "a very tough experience", saying that it "nearly killed me". He had signed on to direct because a lengthy pre-production on his own drama Far North (2007) left him available.
- The film's script was originally titled Revolver, but the name was changed while it was being made because Guy Ritchie's Revolver (2005) had been released first.
