Plot summary
Lucifer ejects Gabriel from Hell, telling him the war of Heaven is not his to fight. The archangel's new mission is to stop the birth of a nephilim, the child of an angel and a human. Thomas Daggett, now a monk, prophesied the child's coming and said it would precede reconciliation between Heaven's warring factions. Valerie, a nurse, conceives the child after Danyael, a stranger she hit with her car, seduces her, and she learns days later that she is pregnant. Gabriel keeps Izzy, a teenage girl who has just killed herself with her boyfriend, alive to run a computer and drive him, since he can do neither.
