Biography
Russell Wong is an American actor who moved to Hong Kong in 1983, learned Cantonese and martial arts, and landed his first film role there in The Musical Singer (1985). His first English-language film was Tai-Pan (1986). Born in Troy, New York, he attended Santa Monica City College while training as a dancer. He worked with director Wayne Wang on Eat a Bowl of Tea (1989) and The Joy Luck Club (1993), and had supporting roles in China Cry: A True Story (1990) and New Jack City (1991). He led the television series Vanishing Son (1994), regarded as one of the first American dramas to feature an Asian lead, and broke through opposite Jet Li in Romeo Must Die (2000); they reunited in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), with Wong as General Ming Guo. He also appeared in the video games True Crime: Streets of LA (2003) and Stranglehold (2007).
