Plot summary
London, in the early 1970s. A miners' strike has brought power cuts to Britain, and the blackouts are set to spread. The East London Royal Infirmary is nearly empty, its patients and staff moved elsewhere. Val, a nurse in training, arrives for her first day and is put on the night shift in the dark, crumbling building. She was raised in an orphanage, and the empty wards bring back a past she would rather not revisit. Something else shares the hospital with her through the blackout hours, and the building holds a deadly secret that forces her to face her deepest fears.
