Plot summary

Diana Armstrong lives with her parents and wants to finish college, but her father refuses to pay her tuition. Pregnant and set on independence, she moves into an apartment with her boyfriend, Lance, and takes a job at a shoe store. There she meets Ronnie and Tricks, dancers at a strip club called the Players Club, who tell her she could make more money on stage. The club's owner, Dollar Bill, takes her on and calls her Diamond. Diana is raising her son, Jamal, and dancing pays better than the shoe store, so she stays on while she studies journalism. Four years on, her younger cousin Ebony moves in with her and also takes a job at the club.
