Plot summary
In 1943, sailors David Herdeg and Jim Parker serve on the USS Eldridge, a destroyer escort moored in Philadelphia, where Doctor James Longstreet and his team test equipment meant to make the ship invisible to radar. The test misfires and the ship vanishes. David and Jim jump overboard to escape and come ashore in a town that fades away around them, leaving them in a desert. A helicopter sends them running, and an electric fence nearly kills Jim. At a roadside diner, a burst of energy from Jim wrecks two arcade games and starts a fight with the owner. The two seize a woman, Allison Hayes, and make her drive. She tells them the year is 1984. Police take them into custody as Jim's seizures grow worse.
