Plot summary
Robert Thorn is an American diplomat in Italy. When his wife, Katherine, gives birth, he learns their son is stillborn. With Katherine unconscious, the hospital chaplain, Father Spiletto, suggests he adopt an orphaned newborn. Robert agrees and names the boy Damien. Katherine raises him as her own. Robert's career advances, and he is posted to Britain as deputy ambassador. The family settles outside London. Disturbing incidents begin around Damien. Father Brennan, a priest who says he was involved in the birth, approaches Robert. Photographer Keith Jennings notices strange omens in his pictures. A new nanny, Mrs. Baylock, arrives and starts making choices for Damien without the Thorns' consent.

- In 2021, Split-Dalmatia County prefect Blaženko Boban admitted he deliberately staged a fire in Salona to drive The Omen's crew away from the planned set, because a scene had "Satan was supposed to come out of the tomb of Saint Domnius". Director John Moore said the relocation cost US$500,000; Boban later denied it all, saying he had been joking.
- Dan McDermott was denied a writing credit on The Omen by the Writers Guild of America because his screenplay was ruled too similar to David Seltzer's 1976 script. Seltzer, uninvolved with the remake, received sole credit instead.
- Fox first reported The Omen earned US$12,633,666 on its opening day; distribution president Bruce Snyder later admitted the studio was "having a little fun" by rigging the figure so its last three digits read 666.
- The hunt for Damien spanned Los Angeles, London and New York, and in 2005 newcomer Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick won the part, with his screen test doubling as the film's teaser trailer.
- The Omen took the record for the highest opening Tuesday gross in United States box office history at the time, earning more than US$12 million, and as of June 2026 still ranks 7th among opening Tuesdays.
