Plot summary
Nina Borowski, a social worker in Brooklyn, meets George Hanson, a first-grade teacher, at a party thrown by her stepsister Constance and Constance's husband Sidney. Constance, who disapproves of Nina's boyfriend Vince, keeps trying to fix her up with someone else. Robert, George's boyfriend, lets slip that George is hunting for a room, which surprises George; the couple part, and George takes the room Nina offers. Nina and George settle into movie nights and ballroom dancing. When Nina becomes pregnant, Vince proposes, she refuses and ends the relationship, and George offers to help raise the child. Living together, Nina finds her feelings for George deepening.
