Plot summary
A narrator sings the poem's opening stanzas as the house lies still and the children sleep. Santa arrives with a sack of toys and goes to work. The toys come to life, dance around and dress the Christmas tree. A company of toy soldiers fires balls from a cannon, a toy airplane draws a garland across the branches the way skywriting hangs in the air, and toy firemen dust the tree with snow. A blimp brings the star up and sets it on the highest branch of the tree. While the decorations go up, Santa fills the stockings that hang for the sleeping children.
