Plot summary
At a sold-out Vienna opera, Captain Karl von Raden buys a returned ticket and ends up sharing a loge with a woman who at first refuses his advance. She agrees to spend the next day with him in the countryside, and the outing turns romantic. Karl's uncle, Colonel Eric von Raden, who heads the secret police, hands him a mission: carry secret plans to Berlin. The same uncle tells him that the woman is Tania Fedorova, a Russian spy. When Tania comes aboard his train and says she loves him, Karl answers that he has been deceived and that he knows she is a spy, and she leaves his compartment.
