Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The film's villain, the Dragon Emperor, and his undead army are based on the real Qin emperor Qin Shi Huang, who was buried surrounded by thousands of fired terracotta soldiers known as the Terracotta Army.
  • Rachel Weisz declined to return as Evelyn, citing problems with the script as well as having just given birth to her son, so Maria Bello was cast to replace her in the role.
  • The film crew frequently had to halt shooting in Shanghai when soldiers marched through or near the set, and the desert battlefield seen in the film was actually a leased Chinese army training facility.
  • The shimmering, diamond-like pool of water in Shangri-La took visual effects studio Rhythm and Hues eleven months to complete, while the undead army's battle scenes were created using the Massive artificial-intelligence software originally developed for the Lord of the Rings films.
