Plot summary
The gunmen Lord and Bull, two adventurers, are hired by Judge Warren to recover $500,000 in gold. A Confederate colonel hid that money as the Civil War was ending, and others have sought it since. The judge's instructions send the pair to a small town for the details of the job, but Warren is not there, and many of the people they meet want them dead. The colonel's relatives, the Forrester family, are also after the gold and are not alone in wanting the newcomers out of the way. With their only clues pointing to that town, Lord and Bull start searching for the hiding place.
