Plot summary
During the Mexican Revolution, the peasant El Vasco turns on the army colonel commanding his town of San Bernardino and raises a revolt there. The rebel leader General Mongo Álvarez then recruits him into his gang, though Mongo cares more about his own fortune than about his country. Into this comes Yodlaf Peterson, a Swedish arms dealer with guns to sell to Mongo, who learns the money for the deal is locked in a safe. Its combination belongs to Professor Xantos, who leads a student movement that rejects violence and is held by the United States Army at Yuma. El Vasco dislikes the suited Peterson, whom he calls a penguin, but Mongo pairs the two of them to bring Xantos out, and a wooden-armed American named John, Peterson's former business partner, wants his revenge.
