Plot summary
Joe works for the Mallard Corporation. He comes to in a courtyard built around an ancient grist mill and remembers nothing of how he arrived. The voice of another inmate, one of the prisoners the place calls employees, explains part of what is happening and warns that asking for help or trying to escape during food deliveries only brings more isolation. The work is pushing the millstone to reach a targeted quota, and the deadline comes around daily, with severe consequences for anyone who fails. Joe wants to get back to his pregnant wife, Kate, before the birth of their child.
