Plot summary
Mark has been living the same day over and over, long enough to memorize its rhythms and to step in before strangers stumble. He gives a girl directions, then waits at the community pool to keep her from being knocked into the water by a beach ball. Margaret gets there first and does the saving. Mark tracks her down and learns she is caught in the same loop. Together they start collecting the day's small perfect moments. He talks about art school and about his father, who is writing a history of the Civil War; she talks about wanting to work for NASA and about a dog she has not found. Each evening she leaves quickly after a message from Jared. Mark wonders how to break the loop, and Margaret has no interest in escaping it.
