Plot summary

Thaddeus, seeking inner peace, is on the road to the monks of Wu Chi Temple when Silver Lion's brother and his henchmen waylay him. He beats them, but a claw wound leaves him near death, and he drifts unconscious down a river. Men in Tsai Fu village dig silver for Master Ho, who maims and kills those who fall short of their quota. One villager buries his daughter and calls for her killer to be caught; Li Kung talks the men out of rebelling. Innocence, Li Kung's daughter, finds Thaddeus in the water, nurses him back to health, and hides him at the old blacksmith's residence. Narration also tells of the Golden Nectar, a spring of chi in the mountains that the monks and the Gemini Twins protected.
