Plot summary
Calvin Barr lives quietly with his dog in 1987, visiting a shabby bar and talking with his brother, a barber. The war does not leave him: as a young American soldier he was sent on a secret mission to kill Adolf Hitler, and he did it. The killing stayed classified, and with a convincing body double in place the Nazi leadership fought on, which left Barr bitter and unfulfilled. Two agents, one from America and one from Canada, come to him about a virus that began with the legendary Bigfoot; it threatens all life and has caused killings in the Canadian wilderness. Barr is a skilled tracker and survivalist, and among the few people immune, so the agents want his help.
