Plot summary
A professor brings four students to a house associated with the Mad Hatter, a figure of local legend who is said to have lost his mind to mercury poisoning and grief. The professor tells them not to worry. The strange figures shuffling around the property, he says, are only servants whose family line weakened over the generations, and the Hatter died years ago. The students are there for his experiment. Then they begin to vanish one at a time, and the ones left behind ask whether the professor's work is scientific at all, and whether the Hatter's madness ended with him or was meant to be passed on.
