Plot summary
Nancy is a bride at a Park Avenue wedding in Manhattan. A man no one invited is in the room: Harry Blair, a psychiatrist who was her husband before she became engaged to John Willis. His appearance and manner are so sober that no one questions his presence, and he asks that the groom be brought to him. He tells of the years he shared with Nancy, and of the artist Norman Clyde, who dated her before him. In Blair's telling, a secret from Nancy's past drives her to use every man she meets. Nancy's bridesmaids are with her as the ceremony approaches.

- Hume Cronyn bought Norma Barzman's screenplay to produce and direct the film himself, with his wife Jessica Tandy in the lead role, before selling the rights to RKO Pictures, which had Sheridan Gibney rewrite the script.
- The interiors used for the Willis house appear to be the same sets used for the home of Alex Sebastian, played by Claude Rains, in Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious, also an RKO release of 1946.
