Plot summary
David Banner works at the Joshua-Lambert Research Institute under the name David Bannion, finishing a Gamma Transponder with a team of scientists. It is meant to be an energy source, but Banner has secretly given it a second function: a way to undo the gamma change that turns him into the Hulk. He has gone two years without changing, helped by Maggie Shaw, a young widow he is involved with; thinking of her lets him push the change back. Donald Blake, once his student, recognizes him, and tells him that in Norway he came into possession of a magical hammer that holds the soul of Thor, a Viking warrior shut out of Valhalla and forced to serve Blake, and that speaking Odin's name summons Thor. Tired of Thor's brutish manner, Blake wants Banner's advice on breaking the bond.

- Lou Ferrigno trained extensively to regain the muscle mass required for him to credibly portray the Hulk, putting on 45 pounds in three months.
