Carl Ciarfalio
Biography
Carl Ciarfalio was an American actor and stuntman. Over a career that lasted more than forty years, he worked on over 300 film and television projects. He was born in Alhambra. He started out as a plumber's associate, then a wrestling acquaintance invited him to Knott's Berry Farm, where big and tall performers were needed for live shows. He took a summer job there, enjoyed it, and never returned to school, instead building a long career as a stuntman. He went on to appear in films including The Amazing Spider-Man, Fight Club, and Mission: Impossible III. His most notable role was the Thing in The Fantastic Four (1994), a Roger Corman production that was never released. He was hired to wear the Thing costume after the actor cast as Ben Grimm could not fit into it. He also published the book Stars, Stunts and Stories: A Hollywood Stuntman's Fall to Fame in 2015. He died in 2025.

Big break
Ciarfalio was cast as the Thing in the unreleased Fantastic Four because the actor playing Ben Grimm could not fit in the suit, so Ciarfalio wore the costume instead.
A change of course
Ciarfalio began his career as a plumber's associate after a wrestling associate invited him to Knott's Berry Farm, which wanted big and tall actors for audiences. He took the summer job before he would enroll at Cal State Fullerton that September.
Behind the camera
Ciarfalio launched a Kickstarter in 2014 to publish his biography, Stars, Stunts and Stories: A Hollywood Stuntman's Fall to Fame, which reached its $11,055 goal and came out in September 2015.
