Plot summary
The Kadam family runs a restaurant in Mumbai, where Hassan learned to cook from his mother. When a mob burns the business down, Papa packs up his children and takes them to Europe. Their van breaks down near Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in southern France, and a local woman, Marguerite, tows them into town. Papa buys a failed restaurant a hundred feet from Le Saule Pleureur, the Michelin-starred place where Marguerite works as a sous-chef, and opens Maison Mumbai. Madame Mallory, Le Saule Pleureur's proprietor, resents the new neighbors and their brash ways, and sabotage and complaints to the mayor follow. Hassan turns to Marguerite for lessons in French cooking.
