Plot summary
Jane Hawkins was an Olympic gymnast until an injury ended her career. Now in her forties, she works as a massage therapist, keeps herself in peak condition with exercise, and lives with her husband David in a marriage that has gone loveless and childless. A chance meeting with Denise, a friend from her gymnastics years, turns her toward aerial dance, and she begins lessons with the trainer Nicole. There she meets Serena, a Korean-American dancer who was raised by a Jewish adoptive family and is closeted about being a lesbian, at least with her parents.
