Plot summary
Adam Franklin and his brother Ross are in their twenties in the early 1990s when they go into business together, selling the electronic terminals businesses use to process credit card transactions. Americans are spending more than they ever have, and the venture makes the brothers millionaires. Complaints about the way the two operate reach government officials, who send warnings asking them to respond; the brothers let those warnings pass and keep expanding their startup into a multi-million-dollar company. When competitors in the industry press regulators at the Federal Trade Commission, the agency builds a case aimed at destroying the business.
