Plot summary
Chelsea, whose real name is Christine, works as a high-end escort in Manhattan. She sells what she calls the girlfriend experience: she dresses for the client, accompanies him to dinner and a movie, listens to talk of work and finances, and provides sex. It is October 2008, a presidential election is near, and the economy is collapsing. Her clients spend less and bring up the recession in her company. Her boyfriend, Chris, is a personal trainer at an expensive gym who talks up his wealthier male clients. A journalist interviews Chelsea about her work and her private life. She keeps a Web page, consults image consultants, and reads personology books, asking clients their birthdays to make astrological predictions.
