Plot summary
The teleporting machine Jane Chandler has been building is still a prototype that will not do what she wants it to do. She is a particle physicist, and away from her work she has a home and a family. Matt is her husband, and Samantha and Jake are their children. Their life together ends when Matt is killed in a traffic accident. While Jane grieves, she finds that the machine is not teleporting anything. What it holds is sent to a parallel universe. Jane crosses into that other reality and returns to her own world with a living version of Matt.
