Plot summary

Belinda sleepwalks at night from anxiety, her department treats her badly, and she is still grieving Wallace, the first son she lost. Her husband Norman has been apart from his family for years. His stepmother Solange, who is estranged from him, telephones from a number he does not know with word that his father is dying. Norman will not go to see them, and he says nothing to Belinda of the religious abuse Solange subjected him to. After his father dies, the couple attends the funeral, and at the church Solange makes her offer: if they keep her in their home for her final days, her substantial inheritance is theirs. Money is tight, so Norman agrees. She moves in and claims the front room, the space the couple had prepared for their baby.
