Plot summary
Sean makes ends meet as a freelance driver, and his assignment is to take a costly Mercedes-Benz from Los Angeles to its owner in Miami, a trip that also gets him to his sister's wedding. He is told to keep the car undamaged and to take on no passengers. He picks up Nick, a hitchhiker who hunts vampires and is tracking a band of them led by Kit, one of the Forsaken, the first vampires. Nick himself carries the vampire virus, held back by an antiviral drug cocktail that will not last. At a diner the two come across Megan, a disoriented young woman the vampires bit and left for dead. Sean is infected with the virus, and Nick's hunt for Kit becomes a race to keep him from turning.
