Plot summary
Vicky is eight years old and shares a home with her mother Joanne, who teaches swimming, and her father Jimmy, who is a firefighter. The girl has a rare gift: she can identify and recreate any smell, and she keeps the scents she collects in carefully labeled jars. A solitary child, Vicky is closest to her mother, and she keeps Joanne's scent in the jars as well. Julia, Jimmy's sister, returns to the village after a prison sentence. Vicky captures her fragrance, and the scent carries the child out of the present and into a past that holds the family's secrets.
