Plot summary
In Sète, at the end of summer, Ophélie discovers she is pregnant by Tony, her lover, while she is engaged and soon to marry Clement, who is away in Iraq. Tony, a cousin of Amin, wants their affair kept secret instead of turning serious. Ophélie's father expects her to run the family farm, and her friend Amin, a young photographer, is the one she confides in. Amin also spends evenings with Charlotte, Tony's former girlfriend, who talks with him about literature while he photographs her; they keep the meetings to themselves. Ophélie weighs a secret abortion and a marriage to Clement against keeping the child, perhaps living with Amin in Paris. Amin and his friends meet Marie, a student from Paris.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo (2019)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo contains a 13-minute unsimulated sex scene in which actress Ophélie Bau receives oral sex from actor Roméo de Lacour. Shortly before its Cannes premiere, a report said director Abdellatif Kechiche pressured the actors to consume alcohol to finish the scene despite their reluctance.
- When producers withdrew post-production funds for both Mektoub films in 2017 over the decision to split Intermezzo from Canto Uno, Abdellatif Kechiche funded the finish himself, in part by auctioning off the Palme d'Or he won for Blue Is the Warmest Colour (2013).
- Ophélie Bau attended the Cannes premiere of Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo but left before the screening and skipped its press conference. In 2020 she said she refused to attend because Abdellatif Kechiche denied her request to view the sex scene at a private screening first.
