Plot summary
Detective Russell Logan works serial killer cases in Los Angeles, and the one he is after now is known as the Pentagram Killer, named for the symbol he carves into his victims before he kills them. A woman calls Logan anonymously with an offer: she will say where the killer will strike next if he gives his word that the killer will not be put to death. Logan agrees, and he and his partner, Oliver Franklin, keep watch on the place she names for several days. When patience runs out, the killer takes a policewoman from the spot, and the detectives seize him before he can kill her. Logan goes back on his promise and argues for the death penalty, and the woman calls again to plead with him to stop it.

- Writer-director Robert Resnikoff drew the film's premise from convicted mass murderer Gary Gilmore, who believed in reincarnation and said he would return after Utah executed him by firing squad in 1977.
