Trailer

Plot summary

Bill Palmer's novel Bone Daddy retells a string of unsolved Chicago murders from his years as the city's chief medical examiner. In the book the killer is caught; in reality the case was never closed. His agent, Rocky Carlson, is attacked in his hotel room and misses the launch party. Palmer and his publicity man find the room empty but for a human finger bone, and Palmer is brought onto the investigation alongside police officer Sharon Hewlitt. A party for Peter, Palmer's son, who has taken his father's old post as chief medical examiner, ends when a gift box is opened: inside are lower leg bones and a note claiming they belong to the missing agent.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Bone Daddy (1998)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • On December 7, mid-shoot, stars Rutger Hauer and Barbara Williams took a night off from Bone Daddy to perform together at the Toronto jazz club Dark City; Hauer read Leonard Cohen and Sylvia Plath, and Williams sang from her album Forgiving Ocean.
  • Bone Daddy looked likely to come in too short for HBO's contractual demands, so production grudgingly added a day to the schedule; the extra two or three minutes did not make it drag, in Rutger Hauer's view, but it still finished slightly short.
