Plot summary

Summer recess takes Edna Garrett and four of her charges to Paris, France. Mrs. Garrett has signed up for a prestigious cooking academy, where a famous chef puts her through French cooking lessons. Blair Warner, Jo Polniaczek, Natalie Green and Tootie Ramsey join the summer program of a French boarding school, and their lodging sits kilometers from Paris, where a strict guardian named Miss Southwick watches over them. The girls find the arrangement oppressive, and their last days in France are slipping by. Rather than let the trip go to waste, they make plans to see the city for themselves. Blair hopes to find French romance, Jo has a car race in Le Mans in mind, and Natalie and Tootie meet Garth Kiley, an American author down on his luck.
